See how many hours international students can work in Canada

To be able to meet your living expenses while studying in Canada, international students have the opportunity to work in Canada but there are rules to follow.

Also, working while studying in foreign schools is a great way to gain work experience and acquire social and language skills.

Apart from providing an extra source of income, a part-time job while studying will give international students a competitive edge when searching for full-time employment as a graduate.

However, there are rules that must be followed in terms of the number of hours of work that is allowed, where international students can work, work permits and other documents required.

Note that if international students work when they are not allowed to, they will be in breach of their visa conditions and may face deportation.

If you are interested in studying and working in a foreign country, here are some countries that grant permits to students to work while studying as well as criteria students need to meet.

You can meet your living expenses while studying in Canada by following these simple guidelines.

  1. International students in Canada with a study permit who are enrolled full-time in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI), can work off campus without a work permit.
  2. They can work up to 20 hours a week
  3. They can work full-time or take two part-time jobs if on Winter or Summer break
  4. They are also allowed to work for any employer in any occupation anywhere in Canada
  5. International students will need to obtain a Social Insurance Number (SIN) using their study permit before they can be allowed to work while studying in Canada
  6. You cant work off-campus without a study permit if you are only enrolled in English or French as a second language programme
  7. They cannot work in Canada if their study programme will be completed in less than six months
  8. You will not be allowed to work in Canada until you start your study programme
